Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, then you know that the annual San Diego Comic-Con was just held July 22-25. Comic-Con, which started out in 1970 as a comic book convention with 145 attendees, has grown to 126,000+ in 2009.
Though comic books were the foundation for the convention, it has grown in modern times to include all types of entertainment and general geekiness, as evident by the outrageous costumes worn to the convention.
This year, unsuspecting Comic-Con attendees were treated to a surprise performance by the Barenaked Ladies at the Big Bang Theory Panel! In years past, the BNL have been unable to visit Comic-Con because they’ve been on tour; but this year they were able to perform the theme song they wrote and recorded live! If you weren’t lucky enough to see the BNL at Comic-Con, you still have several chances, including Aug. 31 in Raleigh; Aug. 2 in Atlanta; Aug. 7 in Boston; Aug. 11 in Cleveland, and more! Barenaked Ladies tickets are available now for the band’s upcoming tour! They are hitting the road all summer long in support of their latest release, All In Good Time.
The quartet will be rocking across the US May-August. The opening act for the first two months of the tour will include performances by Ingrid Michaelson or Serena Ryder, on select dates. The Who might be rocking the Superbowl halftime show this year, but the Barenaked Ladies are getting you ready for it on February 6th.
The band will join O.A.R. and Robert Randolph & the Family Band in a show in Fort Lauderdale, Fla, from 4 PM – 10 PM the night before the big game. The city is teaming up with Live Nation for the performance, to be held at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park.
This will be a great warm-up for football fans, who will see Super Bown XLIV on February 7th at Land Shark Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., which is only about 20 miles from Fort Lauderdale Beach.
While everything seems to be set in stone, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission will give a formal vote on the event January 20th.
